Nature is a fundamental human right. It protects us from the accelerating impacts of climate change, uplifts our mental and physical well-being, fosters our sense of place, can bolster academic achievement and even reduce crime. That's why I am passionate about equitable access to nature's benefits.
I'm also a naturalist and prairie expert who believes wildlife and ecosystems deserve protection for themselves and our benefit. This is our moment to protect, restore, and rebuild nature for the benefit of people and wild species everywhere, from remote wilderness areas to the heart of our biggest cities.
I am a conservation leader who has built diverse coalitions, co-founded and ran a successful nonprofit, and has served in leadership roles on boards and advisory boards. I advise public and private funders, governmental agencies, communities, and nonprofits on climate action, conservation innovation, centering equity, and other critical issues.
For 26 years, I have been privileged to lead and work at the nexus of conservation, equity, education, communications, children's rights, human health, and biodiversity conservation at the local, state, and national levels. This diverse experience has allowed me to build partnerships, catalyze community-based actions, secure funding, and foster community science and storytelling. These experiences have fueled and inspired my work. My aim has always been to ensure that people and wildlife have a fair chance to thrive in a healthy, awe-filled environment, particularly those disproportionately impacted and vulnerable to nature inequity and climate change.
To meet my partners' and community's goals, I continue to use my cross-disciplinary knowledge and skills in ecology, community development, coalition building, equity, climate resilience, education, One Health, and communications to affect real change in the world - for people and the rest of nature.
